Lauren & Dave Guilds & StoneThe first fundraising concert at the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center in Old Saybrook on December 11th, 2009, to benefit the Shoreline Soup Kitchen and Pantries was an unqualified success: ticket sales for the concert plus a donation from the Madison Rotary came to a total of $6,788.00 – which was then doubled by the Gowrie Group – bringing the final total to $13,576.

With that money, the Shoreline Soup Kitchen can buy many thousands of meals for people in need. Presented by the Shoreline Acoustic Underground (Brian Wolfe, Paul Neri) and Small Town Concert Series (Matthew Male, Lauren Agnelli), the event was sponsored by AcousticMusic.Org (Leonard “Trip” Wyeth). Musicians all, the concert producers used their expertise to make the concert shine, musically.

For a modest ticket price of $20, attendees to the show enjoyed “a lively and eclectic evening of quality entertainment” at the new 240-seat theater, “the kate,” as well as tasty snacks during intermission.  All refreshments and entertainment had been generously donated:  Feast Gourmet Market, Simon’s Marketplace, Howard’s bread, the Wheatmarket, Chamard Vineyards and Scotts Orchards provided food and wine, included in the ticket price.
Musical entertainment was donated by CT State Troubadour Lara Herskovitch; Grammy Nominated folk rocker Lauren Agnelli; international recording artist and songwriter, Dave Rave;  the bluegrass band, Ragweed, Moving Target jazz band; folk rockers Ebin-Rose & the Name; the king and queen of Shoreline ukulele, Jim & Liz Beloff; soft rockers Eric & Sandra Lichter.
Patty Dowling, SSKP Executive Director, was pleased with the event – the entertainment and the outcome.  “What’s so special about this group is that they’re all volunteers in the community.  They put together the concert, they do all the publicity. . .to make a difference. . . it’s about someone looking at themselves or their friends or their group and saying, ‘What can I do to make a difference?’ That’s what we’re all called to do – and it’s a really amazing thing.”

Still available for sale with all proceeds going to the soup kitchen, SSKP benefit cds are being sold on the shoreline:  in Old Saybrook at Cartier Optical, Emerson Books, Foodworks ll, Northcove Outfitters; in Clinton at Malone’s Coffee Shop and Neri Lutherie; in Madison at the Wall Street Gallery, and in Guilford at AcousticMusic.Org.  Featured artists are Lara Herskovitch (CT State Troubadour), Ebin-Rose, Moving Target, Jack Caldwell, Lauren Agnelli with 2-time Grammy winners Brave Combo, the Lichters, and more.
