Weekend Update With A Cause

Posted by Edwin Bartlett On December - 10 - 2009

edwin-bartlettI am releasing the weekend update early, as I feel that it is very important to get the word out about Friday night’s show at The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center. Mathew Male, Lauren Agnelli, and the rest of the musicians normally associated with The Small Town Concert series, will be joining forces with the Shoreline Acoustic Underground to raise money for The Shoreline Soup Kitchen and Pantries. Now this is normally just a great thing, but to top it all off, they have two sponsors who will double the money raised. One will donate an additional $20 for every admission ticket sold, and another will donate $10 for every CD sold. This is an Incredible opportunity to raise some serious money for a very serious cause. If you cannot make this show, then Lauren, Matthew,Dave Rave and friends will be at Leif Nillson’s gallery in Chester doing it again to raise money and collect food for The Chester Pantry. This an incredible chance to see some of the areas best local musicians supporting local charities.

Now on to the rest of the weekend. For the rest of the month, Mystic Aquarium has their ongoing exhibit of beautifully decorated trees. At The Kate on Saturday is Duke Ellington’s Nutcracker Suite, for two shows.

This weekend their is just a ton of music going on across the state. Starting with one of my favorites, The Shiny Lapel Trio at The River House in Chester, you then have Eran Troy Danner at the Cambridge Brew House in Torrington, The Michael Cleary Band at Black Eyed Sally’s in Hartford,Steve Atwood at The Hitchin Post in Durham, Redline at JRoos in North Haven, The Butch Taylor Band at The Chowder Pot in Branford, Roctane at Stash’s in New London, and 2 Cat Zoo playing The Voodoo Grill in Mystic. One of the best shows will be Spyro Gyra at SCSU, so get out to SCSU to catch them if you can.

Saturday Night you can catch the Crop Dusters at the Hitchin Post, Timeless at JRoos, Groove Time shakes the Chowder Pot, Fat Betty is at Stash’s, Red Light is playing at The Brown Derby in Uncasville and of course, you have the two shows at The Kate for Duke Ellington’s Nutcracker Suite, and finally The Taxmen at The Aqua in Clinton
