This is an amazing weekend. the weather looks good, and there are so many things to do it is staggering. Connecticut is truly alive with activities, and it gets harder every week to keep up on what’s going on, but I am looking for some interns to help gather and load. When I say that we can find over two thousand events to load up, I am not kidding. But, I digress. here’s what we got going on.
I am going to skip the bands listing for the most part, as they are all here in the events section. Still here are some of my favorites. Eight To The Bar is bringing their mostly Motown show to Leon’s in New Haven. Get there early, and have dinner. If you have not been to Leon’s, it’s well worth the trip. Great food and ambiance, and tonite,, some of the best music from Eight to the Bar. Now if Southern Rock is your thing, then the kings of southern rock are at the Hitchin Post in Durham.a In the Pocket hs been doing it for many years, and they got it down to a science. To top it off, they are about as cool a group of musicians as you will ever meet. Going to end my night there, some how, some way.
This weekend is kinda a Travis Moody tribute weekend. Moody Blossom will be at Augur’s Irish Pub In Guilford. Tom Knapp will be joining Peter Blossom while Trav recovers. Then on Sunday, Tom brings the rest of The Downshift crew to join Peter and the Crown Street Orchestra, The Cobalt Rhythm Kings, and many others as they help out a good friend with the Blues for Moody fundraiser at Cafe Nine.
Now onto the Birds. Tonight I will be attending the Eagle Watch Dinner events at the one and only Bee and Thistle Inn. I know what you are all saying right now. A portion of the proceeds will be going to A Place Called Hope. This incredible organization helps injured birds of prey recover from injuries, often from the hands of man, and then, if possible, release them back to their natural habitat. One of the most tragic things I ever witnessed was a redtailed hawk being struck by a car on the Merit as it dove at a rodent. Worse than that, the person did not even slow down. The bird was dead by the time I got to it. So if we can help save even one of these birds, it is well worth the effort. They will also have two more of these dinners. One on March 16th, and again on March 26th. Word on the street is that we will be joined by two hawks, and two owls. Wicked cool. Look for more events at The Bee and Thistle soon enough, as they are always reaching out and helping their community. And you still have 2 more weeks to take the Eagle Watch tour.
Now here is a real fun family event. The Penguin March at The Garde Arts Center in New London. This is the first of a five part event series brought to you by the Sea Research Institute, National Geographic Live, and The Garde Arts Center. In addition to the LIVE African penguins in attendance, there will be penguin games, and a screening of “Madagascar 2″. All in all, a pretty fun day. And, as we expand what we do, we will bring you coverage of the festivities, as The Garde is a truly wonderful and diverse venue. And again stand by for a lot more from The Garde. By the way, we will be giving away tickets to The Garde starting real soon. See, we don’t just tell you where to go, we send you there.
Finally. Chester. Ice Carnival, Sunday, and Samba Rio. Saturday. See the stories, but more importantly, get up and get Out and About here. It is amazing weekend here, and you will enjoy everything they got going on.
