1. Don’t leave food on the counter- stash it out of sight. If food is visible and available, we tend to grab it without even thinking and consume loads of extra, unnecessary calories.
2. Downsize plates and utensils. That’s right, use luncheon plates instead of dinner plates and teaspoons rather than large serving spoons.
3. We’re influenced by other’s food decisions, so when eating out, order 1st! Otherwise, you my give in to the french fries if someone before you has ordered them.
4. At a party with over 6 people, research shows that you’ll gobble up 76% more food! So, when the meal if over, clear food away, keep hands busy with club soda, tea or move the conversation elsewhere.
(and…by the way….for a sweet craving, 16 animal crackers have less calories and fat than 1 chocolate chip cookie!! Who knew??!)
And, I was thinking recently how important showing our appreciation to our kids and spouses is. It’s easily overlooked. Some simple ways to do something little that will mean a lot:
- leave a note around the house a expressing your love and gratitude.
- acknowledge and appreciate them in front of other people.
- hugs all around! Most people love being hugged, and it’s good for us!
- being someone who has always been a fan of quotes, I’ve found that it’s easy to share fitting quotes. Write one down and leave it for your spouse or child.
These little, simple things will go a long way in making your loved ones feel special. Try them!
Thanks! Have a great week!
