CT Wine Trail: Jonathan Edwards Winery, North Stonington

Posted by Edwin Bartlett On August - 12 - 2010

Tucked in the quaint Connecticut borough of North Stonington, lies The Jonathan Edwards Winery.  Known formerly as Crossroads Vineyards, it was purchased by Jonathan Edwards, and the new winery started. What makes this winery differant than most is that they produce both Connecticut Estate wines, and Napa Valley wines. The way they do this is that long term contracts were entered with specific high quality Napa Valle Vineyards for the grapes. They are then turned into wine at these vineyards, and shipped cross country in refrigerated trucks, to  be aged on site at Jonathan Edwards Winery, thus ensuring that the wineries high quality stnadards are maintained during the critical fermentation process. The Napa Valley selection includes Chardonay, Merlot, Cabernet, Syrah, and Petite Syrah to name just a few.

The Connecticut Estate wines are grown on southern facing hills to ensure maximum sunlight, and the vineyard is fully irrigated to ensure the proper amount of moisture. All grapes are hand harvested, and the winery offers it’s customers the opportunity to help in the harvest. They are currently offering a Connecticut estate Chardonay, Gewurtztraminer,Cabernet Franc, and of course, a Pinot Grigio.

Like so many Connecticut wineries, it’s not just about the wines. they take advantage of the beautiful 48 acre vineyard to have many festivals, and special events throughout the year. You can also enjoy music, wine tastings, and book your special events at the Winery. So check them out.
