It’s all about living confidently. I developed a Believe Team….a team of local experts in most facets of life who are working with me and my listeners. For so many, if one aspect of their life could be improved, they would be happier.

I recently spoke with a listener of my show who is struggling with some confidence issues that are getting in the way of her realizing her dreams. I put her in touch with a couple of members of my Believe Team. I could hear the hope and enthusiasm return to her voice. She had goose bumps once again over what she can achieve. So did I.

Anything is possible. And, there are people who are willing to help. Don’t feel isolated. Don’t give up.

This is the year to Live Confidently!! It’s up to you…give yourself goose bumps!

It’s important to understand how the largest organ in your body, (your skin!), functions. Your skin is made up of both living and dead cells, and they’re always growing and dividing. When this happens, cells are pushed up to the top layers of your skin, where they eventually die and flake off.

But did you know that as you age, your ability to age decreases?

So they pile up and cause all kinds of problems such as clogged pores and an overall dull tone. And the more they build-up, the harder it is to keep your skin hydrated and moisturized! Exfoliation is a key step in maintaining healthy skin. By sloughing off (removing) the dead skin cells that you accumulate each day, you can keep that healthy glow. Think of exfoliation as if your are polishing a beautiful silver bowl. Each day a little ‘tarnish’ builds up. If gone unchecked that beautiful silver bowl becomes dull and old looking. Regular ‘polishing’ keeps a beautiful shine and glow. Same goes for your skin! Without
proper and regular exfoliation, dead skin cells can get trapped on the skin’s surface. When they’re trapped, they build up. Once they’ve built up, you’ll experience:A flat, dull complexion

More noticeable fine lines and wrinkles

Rough texture and blemishes

Lessened effects of your skin products

And please re-read the above last point again. Who can afford for their skin care products to have a lessened effect? Out with the old (skin cells) and in with the new (skin cells). Exfoliate your skin regularly. Those built-up dead skin cells aren’t doing a healthy and youthful appearance any favors. For more information regarding skin care, facials and what products would work best for your skin type visit.

My 2nd book just came out…it’s called Incredible Life, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it. 20 women from across the country wrote chapters for the book…mine is called “Believe in Yourself…..You Have the Power to Create the Life You Want

I share 14 guideposts to follow to be happier and more confident. These are based on some of the more popular Monthly Challenges that I’ve been doing on my show for several years. It’s all about creating goose bumps in life…what life should be filled with.

They are specific things you can incorporate into your life, and things that you have 100% control over….that’s the exciting part, for me.

If you’d be interested in obtaining a copy ($20.), send me a note to mary@maryjonesshow.com.

The top 5 facts about the sun & sunscreens:

5. Almost 90% of the visible changes commonly attributed to aging are caused by the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays. Even on a cloudy day, up to 80% of UV rays can pass through the clouds!

4. There are two types of UV rays: UVB (the chief culprit behind sunburn), and UVA (which cause fine lines and wrinkles, leathering, and sagging). The best sunscreens provide “broad-spectrum” protection, so they protect against both UVA and UVB rays.

3. Your skin’s epidermis is literally paper-thin, so UV rays can pierce through it easily. UVA rays penetrate the deepest, all the way to your dermis, where blood vessels and nerves are found.

2. Thinking of getting a “base” tan before your beach vacation? Think again. There’s no safe way to prep the skin for UV rays. Any time the skin tans, it’s a sign of injury. The only safe way to spend a day at the beach is to use sunscreen and stay protected from the sun.

1. 70% of people know that the sun causes premature aging, but only 18% wear sunscreen as part of their daily skin care… BE one of them!

AN OUNCE OF PREVENTION IS WORTH A POUND OF CURE!!

Nothing you will ever encounter, and nothing you will ever do in your lifetime will age you as much as the sun. Day in, day out sun exposure will take it’s toll . Know the facts little darlin, and take action with the best sunscreen and anti -aging skin care products. To learn more about SPF and skin care visit www.daydreamct.com

Many of us have them, leftover from childhood, teachers, and parents. Do not let them define you one minute longer. Think about them honestly. Question their accuracy. A close friend of mine, as a young girl, was often told by her parents and older siblings that she was clumsy. As a result, she shied away from physical activities, dancing, and gym classes. In her early thirties, with encouragement from friends, she bought her first pair of sneakers in years and began jogging with a co-worker. She loved it. Though she still heard the “clumsy” word in her mind, she ran past it. She joined a jogging club, lost weight, successfully ran two marathons, and her confidence soared. Take back control of your inner critic. You can do it by beginning to hear your inner voice giving you only positive feedback. When you hear a self-limiting thought in your mind, instantly tune it out and replace it with something affirming. With just a bit of practice, you can begin to use your inner critic’s power to your benefit, not detriment.

From a chemical standpoint, monounsaturated fats are simply fats that have one double-bonded (unsaturated) carbon in the molecule. Monounsaturated fats are typically liquid at room temperature but start to turn solid when chilled. Olive oil is an example of a type of oil that contains monounsaturated fats.

Most foods contain a combination of different fats. Examples of foods high in monounsaturated fats include vegetable oils such as olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, sunflower oil and sesame oil. Other sources include avocados, peanut butter, and many nuts and seeds.

The fats in the foods you eat should not total more than 25–35 percent of the calories you eat in a given day. For good health, the majority of those fats should be monounsaturated or polyunsaturated. Be careful how much fat you actually take in. One tablespoon of olive oil has 14 grams of fat. There are nine calories in every gram of fat, regardless of what type of fat it is. Let me help you…that’s 126 calories in just 1 tablespoon!!! That can quickly sneak up on you if you pour generously. Want more?? One cup of avocado has 21 grams of fat (a whopping 234 calories total). Last one—2 tablespoons of natural peanut butter has 16 grams of fat (200 calories total). That’s a lot of calories compared to carbohydrates and proteins, which contain four calories per gram. Because fats are so energy-dense, consuming high levels of fat – regardless of the type – can lead to taking in too many calories. That can lead to weight gain or being overweight.

An AP survey last week stated that many women said their pets are better listeners than their husbands. I wasn’t surprised to hear that. Though the report didn’t give reasons why…I’m sure I know why.

Men are hardwired to try to fix problems/issues that their wives/girlfriends discuss. But, for us women, we usually share simply because we need to vent and process things, not because we want anything fixed or solved. It’s how we deal with problems…to talk it through.

I’ve heard it from women for years. They want their husbands to simply listen. Not solve anything, just listen and be supportive. That is hard for men. But, our pets are great at it. It comes naturally for them.

It’s certainly true with my Westie, Archie. Not only is he a great listener, but he often actually tilts his head as if he’s really engaged in my tale, and paying close attention. And, at that moment, that’s exactly what I need.

…..unrelated…my second book is coming out next month! I am a co-author of Incredible Life. Twenty of us in the US were asked to contribute to the book which shares tips and insights into how to create your own incredible life! I must say, it really is a fabulous tool! It will sell for $24.95, but if you’d be interested in pre-ordering one from me for $20.00, send an email to mary@maryjonesshow.com and I’ll get in touch.
