A Taste of Gouveia – A Great Cause At A Great Vineyard

The Kick For A Cause Women’s Soccer Tournament is held every summer in Wallingford, Connecticut at Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Park. Over-30 teams play 11 v 11 on regulation-sized fields; over-40 and over-50 teams play 8 v 8 on smaller fields. Activities also include merchandise and food sales, as well as a drawing for lots of fabulous prizes. Whether you come to play, volunteer your time or just watch some great soccer games, the Kick For A Cause Tournament offers a great time for all!

THE CAUSE

In 2010, the Kick For A Cause Tournament has chosen Meriden-Wallingford Chrysalis as its charity. This local organization offers services to women and children affected by domestic violence. Meriden-Wallingford Chrysalis is based in Wallingford and Meriden, and provides emergency housing, counseling, advocacy and support for victims of physical and emotional abuse. So, as we figured at Shoreline Out and About, if you consistently show up with numbers, word gets out. And word is getting out about us. Mike over at Foe:An American Bistro has asked us over to check his place out, and how could we turn him down. For those who have not been, this is a really cool spot, and we are glad for the invite, so let’s not disappoint. Keep this up, and we keep growing, who knows where we will be asked to next.

We are pleased to annouce that we have partnered up with Eli’s on the Hill, 624 West Main Street, Branford for Shoreline Out and About’s Friday Night Happy Hour. They will be putting out their usual amazing spread, which includes platters of peel & eat shrimp, a carving station, pasta, nachos, and other great Happy Hour fare. Throw in a great ambiance, and it is shaping up to be a can’t miss event.Starting at 4:30, so get there as soon as you can!

Now, here comes the best part. We are not just there for the socializing. We are there with a very specific cause in mind. Eli’s feels the same way about the reality of hunger on the Shoreline as we do. So they are partnering up with us on our Shoreline Cares: A Month Of Giving. And we are going make it real simple. Just grab a can or three of food and bring it with you to Eli’s on the Hill. That’s it. So before you leave for work, just grab a can or two from the cupboard. We will take care of the rest. Augur’s Irish Pub, 27 Water Street, Guilford. Yup, “The Pub”, the place where Mike and I spent (spend) many hours strategizing what we are going to do with the website. The place that I am thankful that walls really can’t talk. This is truly the neighborhood bar, the “Cheers” of Guilford. Augur’s is just a great place to hang out, and have one or two with a bunch of friends, and unwind for the week.

The other really great thing about Augur’s is that Craig now has a grill in the kitchen, and is making some truly amazing burgers. Now throw in the fact that they have fresh, homemade soups (the French Onion is amazing!), you can grab a very hearty meal, a beer, and enjoy the start to the weekend.

So, tomorrow is Friday, and kind of wondering where to go. Thinking something cool, something different. last two weeks have been in a pub, so going to skip that theme. Want everyone to be able to get something out of the ordinary, if they wanted to eat. Got it. What say we all venture down to Mango’s, 988 Main Street, Branford?. Friday Night Happy Hour: Welcoming KC’s Pub To Town

Many of us who grew up in this town have been to Chips Pub. We always loved the food, the atmosphere, just the fact that it was part of Guilford, and many of us were sad to see it go. It was part of lives, one that we won’t forget. But times change, and so do businesses. So when I heard that another “Pub” was coming in, I was hoping that we would get back what was lost. And I believe that is what we are going to get. Based on what I have seen, I feel very strongly that Kelly Carney, and obviously the KC in KC’s Pub is going to do the same thing that Bruce did – create a family friendly restaurant with good food, and a strong sense of community. I have stopped in there already, and love the fact that even though the place has gone through a substantial renovation, it still feels like warm and comfortable. A place unique to Guilford, and inviting to all.

So bearing this in mind, I think that we at Shorelineoutandabout.com should take some time on Friday and welcome Casey, and the rest of the crew to town, and wish them the best of luck. And we need to do that in person, so therefore Friday October 16th’s Happy Hour social gathering will be here. Starting around 5:30 until you feel like going home. Bring lots of friends, and let’s have a good time.

Friday Night Happy Hour, And Our 100th Post!!!!

I love it when a plan comes together. The timing could not have been better, as Shorelineoutandabout.com is all about people getting together and having a good time. This Friday is no exception, and I really think you are going to like what we have in mind.

The first stop, and our gathering point will be one of my favorite haunts. The Stone House Restaurant. Many of you know it, but for those of you who don’t, you need to come on down and join us. Tucked away in the scenic Guilford Marina, with views of Long Island Sound, Faulkner’s Island, and an extensive selection of wine, it is a great starting point. They offer both an exceptional dinner menu featuring some extraordinary seafood, and a bar menu for those who want to eat on the lighter side.

You can either hang there, or travel with us to the Stony Creek Gallery. Here they are celebrating the opening of a show featuring several artists, such as Hannah Baldwin and Fern Berman to name a few. The artist will be present, and wine and cheese will be served. So far, we have planned a little bit of socialization, a little more socialization with some culture thrown in, so what else can we possibly do next?

How about it’s time to get the funk out? As in one of the best Funk bands in the state. The Funk Brokers,Inc. will be appearing at Leon’s Restaurant in New Haven. You can’t beat these guys for high octane dance music, and some seriously original arrangements. Think AC/DC meets Bob Marley. Trust me,it works. Friday Night Happy Hour: Road Trip!

Okay, we are out to have some fun, and head out east to meet up with some friends on the other side of the river. This Friday, get some friends, pick a designated driver and head on east to a really cool and authentic Irish pub, called The Black Sheep. I actually found this place shortly after it opened up. Back in the day, when I actually had business lunches and such, I met an old client, mostly because I had some time to kill, and didn’t feel like driving back an hour and a half to the office, just to hang around for an hour,and then drive 45 minutes home. Yup,playing hookie. Anyways, thought it was cool then, thought it was cool when I went there over the summer, so I think it would be cool now to meet up with old friends, and meet some new ones to. It is actually only about 25 minutes from Guilford, and very easy to get to, so pick a designated driver,and pile a bunch of friends in the car, and get out and get social.
